Things heard on yesterday's train

Man on phone: "So I said, you know, he already takes her swimming, he takes her to school and everything, but she's not his kid, is she?" Pause. "Well of course he's going to get on with her, he's basically a kid himself."

Teenager #1: "George Lazenby, then... I don't know. Then Sean Connery?"
Teenager #2: "I'd say Pierce Brosnan, then Sean Connery."
Teenager #1: "Oh, yeah! George Lazenby, Pierce Brosnan, then Sean Connery."
Teenager #3: "I'm going to have to ask you both to leave this train right now, while it's moving."

Mother to small child: "Look at all the cows!"
Small child to mother: "Mummy, what happens when you die?"

I could totally take Teenager #3.

Let us not forget Daniel Craig. I know he's new, but that does not mean he should be ignored.

Did you mean to make this post a Bond debating space?

I love conversation number 3. Kids are full of surprises...

  6. Daniel Craig wasn't part of the debate since he's the 'reboot' - we're only talking old Bonds here.

I've put George Lazenby in fourth purely because he only got one pretty duff film. He might otherwise have been higher, but the world wasn't ready for a Not-Connery-Bond at that time.

Tim Dalton remains the closest portrayal of Fleming's Bond, imo. Brosnan had his moments, like killing Electra in The World Is Not Enough, but Dalton was the only one you really thought would do ANYTHING to complete the mission. Connery had the necessary cruel streak at times but he was too pretty and... just not right. Too bloody quippy and gadgety by half.

Don't talk to me about the new Sebastian Faulks Bond novel. No mate, you didn't write as Fleming just because you mentioned the scar, the comma shaped lock of hair over his eye and had him drink a lot...

However, if you insist on bringing Daniel Craig to the party then he has to come first. He's brutal and cold-blooded and thinks nothing of putting the Service first and he's no pretty boy.

Not that I've given the matter much thought, you understand ;-)
